The NORCET Preliminary stage is a qualifying examination. Candidates who qualify in this stage will be eligible to appear for Stage II: NORCET Main, subject to the conditions outlined below.
The NORCET Preliminary stage will not be used to determine the final Merit/Rank for selection.

There will be negative marking of 1/3 mark for each incorrect answer.
The question paper will be divided into 5 sections, each with a duration of 18 minutes, containing 20 questions each.
The sections will be activated sequentially. Once the time for a section expires, it will automatically move to the next section. Candidates will not be able to revisit previous sections.

2. Stage II: NORCET Main
a. Scheme of Examination
The duration of the NORCET Main examination will be 180 minutes.
The test will include 160 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) totaling 160 marks. Questions will cover the entire syllabus of Nursing courses at the essential qualification level and will focus on case scenario-based questions to assess nursing skills and competency.
There will be negative marking of 1/3 mark for each incorrect answer.
The question paper will be divided into 4 sections, each lasting 45 minutes and containing 40 questions.
Sections will be activated sequentially. Once the time for a section expires, it will be automatically deactivated, and the next section will become visible. Candidates will not be able to revisit previous sections.
The examination will automatically submit after 180 minutes. Each section will appear one at a time during the 180-minute duration, and candidates will be able to attempt questions only in the currently active section. Previous sections will not be accessible after their time has expired.
Candidates will not be allowed to view or answer questions from any section other than the currently active one. Therefore, it is important to attempt all questions within the allotted time, including reviewing any skipped or marked-for-review questions.

The same relaxed standards will apply to all candidates with Benchmark Disabilities, regardless of their category, as per the DOPT Office Memorandum No. 36035/02/2017-Estt (Res) dated 15.01.2018. No further relaxation will be granted.
If the CBT examination is conducted in multiple shifts, normalization procedures as published by AIIMS in Notice No. 35/2023 dated 20.01.2023 will apply.
In the event of a tie where multiple candidates achieve the same score, ties will be resolved as follows:
The merit list will be adjusted accordingly in the NORCET Score.
The syllabus for the examination will align with the educational qualifications and experience specified in the Eligibility Section/Advertisement.
The merit list of qualified candidates will be prepared based on their performance in the CBT as per the qualifying criteria of Stage II NORCET Main. If the CBT examination is conducted in multiple shifts, the normalization procedure outlined in AIIMS Notice No. 35/2023 dated 20.01.2023 will apply.
There may be instances where a candidate qualifies but is not eligible for any of the participating Institutes/Hospitals.
Choices will be invited only from qualified and eligible candidates as per the applicable eligibility criteria.
Generally, there will be only one round of seat allocation.
Seats will be allocated based on merit from the choices made by the candidate in order of preference.
A candidate to whom a seat has been allocated must join the allocated seat, subject to eligibility requirements. Candidates should only select choices where they are willing to join. Failure to join an allocated seat for any reason will result in the mandatory cancellation of the candidate's NORCET candidature.
No waiting list will be maintained for NORCET to fill any remaining vacancies. NORCET is scheduled to be conducted twice a year.
Detailed information regarding the seat allocation process will be provided when inviting choices after the declaration of the qualified candidates list.
AIIMS reserves the right to invite choices at any stage during the recruitment process.
